Does anyone know how to disable that piece of shit updater in CS5.5?
I can't figure out how to edit my hosts files, because Windows 7 keeps denying me access, even though I'm logged in as admin..I also set notepad to admin, and that shit didn't work..

I have no idea tbh. Install PS Portable in the mean time until you get it fixed.
Ok so: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc is where your hosts file is.

Open it with notepad, then put in on a new line:

127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com

This sets the adobe address to your loopback interface. So it thinks its contacting its server when actually its not.

If that doesn't work then you need an anti-virus or firewall which will allow you to deny photoshop from been able to go onto the interwebs.

Legit, and I took care of it.

replaced the amtlib.dll files. That worked like a charm.

That could work if the issue is editing the file just because of the directory it's under.
Try it.
