debate

did anyone or does anyone currently take debate in high school? i find it quite interesting, it just requires A LOT of extra time.

for example, i had to go to school on a friday (we had that particular friday off) from 7 AM to 1 AM (that saturday morning). so i was at school doing almost constant debating for 17 hours. it was pretty ridiculous.

also, every wednesday i have to go to school from 6:30 PM to 8 PM.

what do you mean by "Take debating"? Like a course or a subject or..?
Because here we do it as part of English.
I've done in a couple times.
The hardest one i recall was "Should smoking be banned".
That was tough,

its a full class, 2 semesters. it takes place of traditional english.

Well then no.
And I would never be able to dedicate that much time to such a stressful activity.

it's VERY stressful but it looks great on a college application.

we get a new topic every month. last month our topic was using private sectors to fund human space exploration or using public sectors (NASA) to explore space. this month our topic is whether the U.S should use direct popular vote to decide who's president rather than using the current electoral vote to decide.

I did for a year 2 years ago as extra curricular not class

Reason I gave up

Honestly even if colleges don't care about it, debate will give you life skills. I was going to take debate as an extracurricular activity when I was in high school but I couldn't put in the time needed.

We have a debate club. But right now I'm taking shitty web design. I want to go for psychology.

Also, I was casually debating with some friends in Skype today, it gives you quite a thrill.
