My dad told me to find a laptop for around $600 for christmas. I went on the Walmart site (which is where he was gonna get it anyway) and found a couple I wanted. Which should I choose .

I want one that can run games fairly well, not something extreme like BF3, just something that can have no lag and stuff like that when I want to play a game that's better than CA, but not get loud as hell. I'm gonna be using it for music too, so I need a lot of space and it'd be nice if it could run a lot of applications at one time without sounding like a jet engine.

The first one has much better CPU marks, second one has slightly better graphics.

Don't forget that with an HP, a shit ton of pointless software is going to come already installed on the laptop that will slow it down like crazy.

Personally I would stick with the Acer, only because I've known many people who have problems with their HP laptops. They tend to get problematic when you try to customize absolutely anything, and the only way to get rid of some of the bundled software is to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows that isn't from an HP OEM disc.

If i were him I'd worry about CPU marks just because he'll be working with a lot of encoding when dealing with music. All that bloatware can be wiped.

But the graphics aren't anything that would matter too much, right?

Find benchmarks for a 6550m and a 6520g and compare. If it matters a lot get the one that performs better in gaming. If you encode a lot of music then get the one with better CPU marks (the hp)

If you get the HP here is a wonderful guide on taking bloatware off ur laptop

I would go with the HP cause its quad core and it can be modified more than the acer (up to 16GB ram upgrade on HP. Only 8 GB upgrade for ram on acer)

Also the HP has a longer battery life and a faster hard drive 3Gbs vs 1.5Gbs

My only problem with the HP is the display. It looks shitty from the video review I watched, given the lighting and such.

It's not easy to record a screen from a camera at high camera
