Sounds like his internet connection isn't working. He can also try to turn off his firewall. My firewall raped origin for looking into my files. So I had to turn it off.

Origin is a suspicious program..... I'd rather use steam.

Agree, i would rather use that, i've been using that ALOT more than Origin, i started using Origin when Battlefield 3 was released..
i know a trick without disabling firewall go to services disable upnp and a thing with a discovery wich name i forgot then go to console tupe ipconfig thne copy ur ip and paste it in the net if u have thomson its easy to do simply go to game config ...upnp DISABLE it then u can play well it worked for me
Origin isn't that much more of a spy than Steam. People just go crazy about it for some reason. Running a game through Process Monitor means nothing at all. Especailly when it doesn't scan anything useful at all. Useful for what people complain about of course.

Steam doesn't have permission to look into your files at will, origin does. Meaning if an intelligent person looked into my computer from origin, they could tell I have pirated games and charge me with theft.

thus we have ORIGIN
If all else fails uninstall BF3 and delete all your settings, you saves are stored with EA so you won't lose anything.
