Something like this, although a P67 mobo would perhaps be better. Not sure if that build would fit in a $500 budget though, especially if shipping is included. I would consider looking at a cheaper Pentium + B75/H61 if you can't fit an i3 + P67 in your budget.

P67 is useless with a Pentium or i3 build. Not like he's going to upgrade to an i5/i7 anytime soon. When he does, 1155 will be a dead socket.

It's not like there's a noticeable price difference, nor does he lose any features he would need. All he does is gain a chance to either run two gfx cards or make better use of a better CPU, if he ever gets one. Furthermore 1155 won't die just that fast, it'll prolly still be of use for the next few years.

That doesn't mean that 1155 will die out.
There's plenty of people still using 775.

Was talking about him not upgrading to an i5/i7 anytime soon. When he does upgrade, he will most likely want to get the latest and greatest.
He could always go the AMD route. IMO processor performance has advanced far enough to the point where even a mid range processor will suffice for %90 of games.
the FX4100 is a good choice for gaming I hear.

Amd is alright.
Which is the only reason why I bought the fx6100 :P
