[Help] Laptop overheating

Laptop overheating

I have a Dell Studio 1458 laptop which I got 2 years+ ago. I've been using this for gaming all the time and roughly few months ago it started to feel kinda warm whenever I use it, even just for web surfing. Now when I play a game for around more than 30 minutes, the game would just slow down to literally 2 frames per second and sometimes even shut down. It's getting really annoying.

Can anyone suggest a solution for this please?

Not sure if posting the stats will have any use but here,
-Intel Core i7 Q720
-ATI MobilityRadeon HD5450 1GB
-4GB RAM

EDIT: These are the temperatures at boot.

I dont know about this (hope for a pro come by here)
But what i know is:
-Clean that fan. Unscrew your laptop and clean the fan(Use compress air if you want)
-Thermal glue or paste if i remember. Try youtube it.

If it automatically shuts down that means it's definitely overheating.

I'd suggest getting a laptop cooler for it so it can get more cool air.

Thermal glue/paste is for the CPU and heatsink, don't pull apart your laptop either if you don't know what your doing, also that might void the warranty pulling it apart yourself.

Okay try these Tips If it worked

1. Update Your Graphic card. sometime shutdown while gaming is caused by bad graphic card or not update fully.

2. Full Scan your system through Bitdefender Total Security or any Anti Virus to remove any viruses and bad things.

3. Install any Best Cleaning Programs i.e Ccleaner or Advanced System Optimizer run One of these programs and clean your system and registry etc.

4. Use a Cool pad for your Laptop to control overheating.

5. still your laptop shutdown Now time to clean the dusk particles of the fan of laptop. while cleaning the fan their a small hole inside the fan and be sure to find that small hole and clean it completely all the dusk particles will be on their.

I updated my graphics card before this, I have a cooling pad, I have CCleaner installed, and I have my AV scan through my laptop every day.

Thanks for all you guy's replies, but I'm gonna get a new laptop.

If you cant unscrew it, next time get a screw driver tool kit or ask the type the of scerw so you can find a screw driver for it

You should really post the temperatures when playing a game. These temps you showed above are normal for a i7 720QM, my laptop also had about 60-70 °C in idle.

In game it's around 80°C-90°C, doesn't matter anyway since I'll be getting a new laptop.

Thats normal aswell so its not overheating. Your decison tho.

But my games slow down and sometimes the laptop shuts itself off.

Well you might try looking into possibly some laptop fan stands to control and decrease the amount of heat.

You basically use stands/mats like these to hold up your laptop and keep the heat controlled and not bring it so high so with the use of these stands/mats to hold up your laptop,it will lessen the amount of heat created by ventilating it with cool air.
