I would recommend a Dell XPS laptop, alienware is too expensive, and Dell offers alot of good discounts for students Or possibly go to Tiger Direct (dot) com, they have gooood deals, and their shipping is uber fast. Thanks me if I helped you find a nice laptop lol :P

Do not get alienware. It's some Chinese shit (had the m15x, in like a month the case cracked open, had overheating issues etc.) Sold it asap to a friend and was glad that was over. Seriously make your own, it's not that hard. If you're looking for moderate power go with an Intel atom n270 / n280 or even n330. The lcd panel + controller should be like $300 for 1920*1200 on 15", more if you want a led backlight. Graphics should be integrated (GMA 950 with the atom), don't push the ram and go for a lower end ssd. Total build should have like 6+ hours battery and decent power for college so go for it.
