Why is CoD so popular?

I mean,

the game is just fucking garbage overall. The game hasn't changed since fucking 6 years, yet they are releasing the games which are practically DLC's..

The gameplay is shit, the maps are shit, the maps are too small, the community is shit, and yet it's so fucking popular

why the fuck?

my guess it is because it's the only (shooter) game that runs properly on a console atm (but that's just cuz they haven't changed the game since the console was released)..

But why would you play it on PC..

It's popular because there are many retards on the world.

One word, fanboys.

Marketing and PR.
And it's just become a massive trend. Most people cares more about playing with their friends than playing a specific game.

I wouldn't say the COD series is complete shit, they just have become the industry standard for too many fps games out there,
it's fucking boring. I don't really care if COD keeps doing what it's doing.
The fact that other game developers are implementing "COD like" features in their own games is what pisses me off.

It's the most accessible and well known FPS out there. People know about it, therefore they will buy the next game if they want to play a FPS.

Sad, i really want REAL games where there has been love to make them. Battlefield, ARMA, Counter strike (FPS games ofcourse) Crysis. But fucking activision with there shit load of money. Thank god DICE has some money to compete agains activision and i have to say, THEY DID A REALLY good job with Battlefield 3. Took ALOT of Cod players to Battlefield. Thank you DICE for the awesome game.

Iunno about you guys, but I loved the Black Ops 2's campaign.

don't say it's shit . matchmaking and shit like that is terrible but when it comes to the gameplay it's actually alot of fun . (you have to mute everyone tho)
And don't bitch at the small maps , it might surprise you but some people like to play games with rather small maps ( which result in fast games ) .
it's also a great game to play with friends .
I know cod has it flaws but every game has them , deal with it.

and unlike some people i can enjoy a game even though the developpers policies aren't that good .

Gameplay is indeed quite fun..
Spawn into a bouncing betty, then spawn into a claymore.
After that, you can sometimes even spawn into a players line of sight who was already shooting at someone else! Oh, and the best part is when you spawn on the other side of the map, where noone at all is, and you have to walk 5 minutes to the objective, while the enemy team spawns on top of it.
