    Freedive training.

Had freedive training tonight. What it was, was having to deal with C02 build up (you know that feeling when you hold your breath for ages and near the end you really want to come up to breath? thats C02 building up). We had to do 20 lengths using your arms to push yourself underwater in a 25m pool and at the end of each length you have 50secs to breath and get ready for the next length. 50 secs may seem like enough time - it isn't. By the 3rd length, your lungs are screaming for air.

I tried to make it simple of what we did tonight. I'm doing this so I can hold me breath longer when I'm spearfishing

Sounds challenging and painful but worthy payout at the end.

Good job at expanding your lung capacity.

Thanks. Thats exactly it - super challenging. A couple of lessons ago we did static tables which is holding your breath and being as relaxed as possible and seeing how long you can go for. It was my 3rd lesson and I maxed at 2mins7secs which is pretty good for me.

Building up your lung capacity eh?
I do similar training yet not for swimming or water.
I've been doing lung exercises daily for the last 4 and a half years.
It pays off in the long run.

For spearfishing, yes. Pros can dive to about 30 meters and hold their breath for 5mins.

This is one of my fav freedive videos. This takes skill

I can actually hold my breath for over 4 minutes, though I've been doing it a long while.
I do vocals for a local metal band, and metal vox take a hell of a lot of air to perform, so that's my reasoning.
I've always wanted to dive, but never got the chance to. What does it take to get into diving?

Not much. All you really need is a good wetsuit (mine is 5mm thick. Max you can buy is 7mm), fins, mask and snorkel, weight belt, float (unless you're using a rail gun) and a speargun. I started off with a pole spear or Hawaiian sling.

The thing with spearfishing is that you have to be aware of your surroundings and fight currents which can be a mission. And if you're gonna go to 5+ meters then have a buddy on the surface to keep an eye out for you in case you happen to have a shallow water black out
