    Cartridge vs Optical disc

For the people who played video games in the 90s and early 2000s, do you prefer cartridge gaming or Optical disc

I prefer cartridges, and here's why.

Cartridges are much more durable than optical discs. Optical discs essentially need to always be put in their case or sleeve. They are much easier to damage (a small scratch can sometimes render an entire disc bad) while cartridges can be thrown around and scratching a cartridge is pretty unheard of.

Although they are more expensive to manufacture and usually don't store as much data, they also have no loading times, and optical drives will go faulty much sooner than the contacts with cartridges and their slot.

While 30 year old cartridge games will still work to this day, a 30 year old disc most likely won't last that long with normal daily use.

What do you guys say? With flash memory becoming cheaper and cheaper, I hope one day we will see a revival or cartridge based gaming

I think the reason of this is because of the fact that they can make more money if people are buying there shit over and over.
And of course the fact of the matter is that as far as I know, the optical ones can store much more data and be read faster than the cartridge.

I think that if you would compare what the cartridges can achieve against a cd, you would reconsider what you just said.

A cd was a big thing back in the days, and it still is.

So what if you damage a cd once in a while?
I have this ps1 game which is 8 years old and still works.

You answered your own proposition in your post. Cartridges are horrendously more expensive to mass produce than CD's. There was not as many games being sold then, so the costs were not as high, but now with a developer needing to be able to push up to millions of copies on the first week of release the production of just printing the game would be ridiculous. Until there is a further drop in flash memory, despite its cheap state even now, cartridges will stay limited to handhelds that dont sell many copies.

Of course, you could always stop living the world through nostalgia goggles, and realize that just because its old doesnt make it better. D2D games are how its happening now, and we will continue to see D2D growing even larger as time goes on.

I have this famicom game which is 22 years old and still works.

Also, storage size doesn't directly account to amount of gameplay.

I'd rather just store my discs in cases than blow on a cartridge for half an hour to get it to work.

Perhaps if you stopped blowing on them they would. Im sure you are aware that messes up the cartridge though right?

Only if you plug it in directly after it's been "blown" as it's likely to be moist from the breath.

Or anytime at all. And its not like people just blew on them and set them down or anything.

    The more you know.
I don't own any cartridges anymore, besides the custom one I bought with a cable so that I can use LSDJ on a gameboy that I don't own.

I'm pretty sure that google translate might be fully capable of doing that.
