got this desktop
ASUS P8H61-M LX R2.0
Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz
Intel HD Graphics 2000 (256MB Dedicated, 1.7GB Total VRAM)
RAM 4GB
500GB HDD

For $450 (Which is pretty good, since the specs are OK expect for the GPU, CPU is pretty fast)

So now I was thinking about getting a dedicated gpu, since this one integrated is pretty slow, actually I was thinking about a GeForce GT 640 DDR5, I guess it should handle games pretty well. Any other ideas? (NVIDIA GPUs Only)
1. Your price range.
2. Why Nvidia only?

Get a GTX 550 TI then, they're $110 I think and it's what I have. works on anything I want

Mine is 4MB I think.. Not that it matters too much. Seems like that's it, I got mine in Jan this year so the price may of just went down.

The fanboy complex doesn't work out too well in the realm of computing components. The absolute best card you're going to get for $100 is the Radeon 7790, as Nvidia's price competitor, the 650, isn't even close in performance.

You are true here, if you're on a range like this, I'd reckon not going for Nvidia. But if you're not like wanting to play BF4 on max settings then you could still get the 550 I guess.

Don't get me wrong, the 550 was a great card. Though its series is quite outdated, and therefore doesn't garner the price/performance it used to.

GTX 550 Ti Lowest Price: $130, Passmark Score: 1,924.
Radeon 7790 Lowest Price: $100, Passmark Score 3,028

$130? lol I got it for $110 off newegg

And I'm just saying if he really wants to stay with Nvidia then get the 550 card.. If he doesnt mind going with another company then get the radeon
GTX 550 TI should work well.. well matters what game you are planning on playing. But if you get afford it then go with the 600 series.

Not hard at all.
My $600 secondary rig can run BF3 on Ultra at 60FPS.
