They just happened to leave the temporary part out of the main post, so when we bring it up in a year, they can just tell us they never said it would be temporary.

That rename trick still rely on account linking? Curious if they they just removed the linking from the 19.1 client and left the http posts working (still making renaming possible).

The linking process is done via a post to the rotmg site. If they just stripped the linking ability from the client one should still be able to do the rename trick as long as the corresponding post still work.

There seemed to be a server restart, they probably did not just remove it from client.

We don't know for sure they're fixing it, they could be doing something else.
