If the treadmill is going at the same speed in the opposite direction, that only means that the wheels will be going twice as fast, though the actual speed through air would be just as normal. Even if the treadmill was traveling at 200 M/h, the plane could easily take off with little difficulty and wouldn't be held in place due to of the wheels' free spinning.

No, pretty sure it wouldn't. Lift is created by movement through air, you're not moving through the air in relatively stationary motion. A paper airplane on a treadmill with zero relative movement to the ground doesn't experience very much lift.

No, pretty sure it wouldn't. Lift is created by movement through air, you're not moving through the air in relatively stationary motion. A paper airplane on a treadmill with zero relative movement to the ground doesn't experience very much lift.

You're making the mistake of thinking that forward motion of the plane is generated from it's wheels. The engines create the lift, regardless of what the wheels are doing, as long as the engines reach enough power to provide take off, I'm pretty sure the plane would take off.

Iunno man. Engines provide power but the lift is created having forward momentum and having air flow through the wings. Without the plane going forward your not generating any kind of pressure and without air being forced into the flaps the plane wouldn't go in any direction, it'd just be a glorified vacuum cleaner. Remember that the engines are mounted under the wing so any air being sucked through would only cause a dive, if anything, and not a lift.

BUT, that's all assuming that the power generated by the engines is met at an equilibrium by the speed of the treadmill, as soon as the engines power exceeds that, the airplane would have foward momentum and be propelled upwards.
