A snippet of code from 16 years seems rather the cause. The name windows 9 could cause problems because a lot of software still contains the code from the 90s:
if (version.StartsWith ("Windows 9"))
That code had to make sure software could run both on win95 and win98. Calling the next version windows 9 would therefore lead to some problems with the software, which still occurs the code. Got it?
8.1 works fine for me. Unless it's a free update, I don't think I'll be updating anytime soon.
