A. Obviously dubbing it as a OS is misleading.
B. Obviously not a OS. (not in VB anyway)
C. Complicated application manipulation is a waste of time, best off creating a useful toolbar or widget that can help manage applications in a unique way.
Finally, (just as a note) you can create a faux system which can imitate the Shell of Windows, (Shell replacement) in fact any application can replace the shell of windows, it's a matter of changing the boot.ini and adding (or replacing) explorer.exe with your app, I did a Emulator Manager a while ago which did exactly that.

Cool story bro.
@Topic, I'm with Rich on this, a tool would be much more useful as we already need an OS to run your "OS" so it just makes you have to login/navigate through all the crap twice to do what you want. A compact functional tool would be a better option. I'm intrigued as to what's going to be "advanced"?

I would be making my own Explorer.exe but I can't because I build all of this on my Dad's Laptop and I am not getting a new computer until Christmas so I can't really do much modification on this. If my dad sees the Start Bar Changed, Im screwed.
That looks WICKED !

Windows was practically made by a 13 year-old Bill Gates.
Good luck. Even most of the programmers here combined wouldn't be able to make an explorer.exe equivalent that was as good.
If you wanna play around with system files just get virtualbox and work in there? /

I think we need to see more then a login screen to assume the system looks wicked, at the moment I see a free wallpaper with a translucent photoshop layer over it pasted into a form with 2 text boxes and 2 buttons. That looks WICKED !

Bill Gates started developing at 13 , but he didn't develop windows until his college days, so your assessment is 100% incorrect and makes your point moot.
I disagree, a explorer replica is simplistic..Good luck. Even most of the programmers here combined wouldn't be able to make an explorer.exe equivalent that was as good.
Let me settle this for you all.
The OP is obviously not creating a True OS in the sense of the word as we know it. He is simply creating a large scale explorer management system (which I honestly don't see a reason or a sense to, but that is my personal opinion.)
Next, Can we create a Operating system entirely with managed code like C# and Vb.net?
Yes, you can, keeping in mind dependencies,CLR, JIT etc. In fact Microsoft Research team has been working on Midora (singularity) since 2003 .
The real issue is not only the entire OS Must be written entirely in managed code, but device drivers , kernel, etc must also be constructed in managed code as well, which is a lot more complicated then it seems, especially considering the thousands of different possibilities and combinations for computers, and with no commercial device manufacturer building their drives this way, you would have to do it yourself, which means limited support.
It has been rumored that Windows.Next (windows 8) will be a migration of this concept.
However, The most practical thing to do will be to create a shell replacement.
Is it just a Multitool?
That maybe got a login system and then with some programs ?
Thanks Cosmos
We need a "Show off section" in my opinion this thread has become a waste, OP released a screenshot comprised of one image and 4 components and titled it OS. I suggest a video or something, otherwise, this thread has become more of a discussion about OS's and their development.
