Having a gaming laptop is very nice, but I had trouble gaming on the train/airplane...
Having to just come home, play games and relax is much more fun
PC has more specifications than Laptop and better thermal control systems ,

It really just depends on what you are doing like everyone else said. I like a PC better though.
I also like laptops.

It really depends. But I choose both.

they run the risk of carrying hate.

The only difference is portability = comfort
I can lay on my couch with my blanket over me with my laptop, you cannot do that with a desktop.
I am used to PC. When i Started college I got a MSi laptop, a GS70 to be exact. I thought I was going to love the thing and figure I would never want a desktop again.
What happened was that I kept on prefering my home desktop and sold the GS70. Now I have a much lighter laptop to move around and do basic stuff.
Desktop is the way to go if you dont need to move around your computer tasks.
Laptop is more portable, if you ever need to relocate fast it’s your best bet
PC for games, video rendering, and any cpu intensive processes.
Laptop for school work related.

I prefer my desktop for gaming, whereas my laptop is great for school due to its portability.
In my opinion it depends on situation.
For traveling etc etc,you will use laptop.
When your home,i bet you would prefer PC.
Hopefully thunderbolt 4 (if it comes) will make plenty use of eGPU and we won't have to chose anymore. For the time being both are complementary.
