Pros: In theory, everyone is equal.

Cons: In reality, varying on the situation, some people are more equal than others.

If a white American calls an African American a "******", the white person would be charged for more quickly than if an African American called someone "white trash".

Similarly, if a white accused a black of stealing, the black would be charged with the wave of a hand.

Anyway, I'm all for it. Our justice system is still far to prejudiced and biased.

Here i'll do it for you.

Pros: It helps out with discrimination, giving a chance for those who would have not got it for petty reasons such as skin color or ethnic background.

Cons: Affirmative action is a good idea, and does help in ways. But the problem with it is that the "idea" is good but the "process" by which it is carried out isn't.

For instance affirmative action can't be done through money. Just giving people money for their race or ethnic discrimination doesn't solve anything. Especially when the people are on equal grounds monetarily.(also economically its a bad idea for them.) The native americans have this type.

Another problem is that you can only to it TILL they become less discriminated. Such as now, black people aren't discriminated against nearly as much, so the actions taken must be toned down.

Another thing bad about it is unnecessary action. Giving people benefits when they have suffered no discrimination. Such as Hispanic benefits down south, its pointless because the majority is Hispanic.

    done.

The job market is too closely tied with the education system to not mention both. The way I see it is that affirmative action within the market place is more geared for corporate America and I'll tell you why. Affirmative action isn't needed in the labor market because of the fact that education for colored people in America is sub par.

Blacks and Mexicans primarily attend the same kind of poor schools. Their parents cant afford to live in a properly funded district area which means their kids go to an underfunded school. These same kids either get no education and drop out or it means that they get their diplomas and don't go to college, either way this kids grow up with the expectation that they are meant for the labor market.

The colored people that actually get enough education to get the qualifications for jobs are the ones that feel they need affirmative action. How would it feel if you make it out of your shitty surroundings just to be shut out by a market completely dominated by white people?

The problem with gearing affirmative action toward corporate America is that there aren't very many colored people qualified enough to be even in the mix in the first place. Its more of a band aid set up to give colored people the idea that the government is out there watching their backs and helping them out, but at the same time those colored and properly educated people don't understand that the education system in America is set up in a way that makes their entire racial group disadvantaged.

The educated colored people will think, "hey, the government has our back on this one, corporations are going to have to make way for equality and finally let us into the market place as viable competition against whites" while the uneducated first, won't realize the education they're getting is complete shit, and second that " well shoot the government really is trying to help our people out, look at affirmative action laws."

TL;DR, the government put affirmative action into law to shut colored people up about inequality.
