If you have 32bit edition you can't go over 4gb no matter how many slots you have. Software limiters.

16gb of low end RAM with crappy speed and moderate timing is not superior to high end RAM with CAS 7 timings and much faster speed. 16gb is complete overkill. 6gb of high end RAM is more than sufficient because you will rarely approach that limit. And you will have to be running a shit load of processes to have a noticeable detrimental affect on your performance. That means you will have a lot of tabs open, word, PS, and you decided to play Skyrim. And you shouldn't be doing that either way considering the amount of unnecessary stress put on your system. So 6gb of good RAM is more then enough. If you feel you need an upgrade you can always purchase more RAM later.

I suggest getting this RAM instead. Not a substantial increase in price, and you get better speed (1600mhz)

I have 12gb of ram and I've found it almost impossible to even use 6gb of it. 8gb should future proof your machine a bit.

No they won't, that's the simplest way to put it. Instead of focusing so much on the RAM / CPU (which you could easily replace with a 955) you should rather focus on getting top-notch gfx cards. That's plural yes, especially if you want to play on the max settings at a decent resolution. Imo go for at least two 6950s if not something more powerful.

so should i just get the AMD cpu / 8GB of that ram, and a card that costs less than $320?

or should i SLI 2 lower end cards?

@Alen, can i attach a gfx card that requires a 2.1 x16 interface to a mobo with a 2.0 x16 interface? cuz most high end gfx cards require 2.1 x16, but i didn't ding 1 mobo that has 2.1
