I bet its easier/faster to re-update your client, and after that do the backup thing and so on..

hmm u can use another way quit steam , delete those files , enter to steam back and right click on mw2 multiplayer and then Verfiy the game files. it will auotmatic begin download the files after it done make sure to backup the files enjoy , and btw i had the same problem...
