None they are both crap and old, get a quad core..
For general computing I would say the Duo but the low speed will let you down in gaming etc.

I would try the single core P4 first just because of the higher speed, it's only CA so anything should run it..

No lagging at all.

the centrino is a failure of a processor, geared more towards power saving by sacrificing performance (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
The P4 also has Hyperthreading, which will give you better performance.
