where did YOU start? (Coding Questions)
Before getting into Mpgh.

Before you started making things and helping out with clients/scripts.

How did YOU begin your journey?

Where was the starting point, and how long have you been doing what you're doing.

If you can give someone tips who's just starting, what tips would those be?

Now, I know i've been asking weird questions, but i'd like to get a feel on how long some of you experienced people have been going at it.

And to those who are just getting started, where are you starting from?
and how far have you progressed?

Thanks for your time guys.

Just trying to learn as much as possible.

Tips, starting points ect are greatly appreciated.

(ROTMG SPECIFIC)
On my computer.
Codecademy is rather helpful for some simple coding.

Not really.

Sure it gives you knowledge but to read an already existing code, you'd need to do it manually

I dont think you know what you are talking about. Code academy has examples and walkthroughs, they also have tutorial videos.

I got my start at programming in general by making my own realm relay trade bot. It took me a while to catch onto things. I found it easier to see my code expressed into the game which is what realm relay scripts do. Other alternatives would be krelay I suppose. I feel it may be easier and more intelligent to start with javascript but thats my personal opinion.
Ok so.. i knew HTML and some CSS before i joined MPGH.First when i discovered hacked clients i was here just for that later on i started looking at private server section it looked very intresting to me so i gave it a try my first goal was to set local private server it took me few days (at that time i was total noob). When i finally made my local private server i looked around on how to customize it add new items etc...Until one day when i dicided to go more deeply into proggraming so i started watching C# tutorials, reading books and when i didn't know something i used google to try to figure it out.The only thing you should watch for is you shouldn't be awere to try, if you make mistake no poroblem undo what you did.I would suggest you to watch few tutorials just to get a basic concept of how everything works then you should try to make something by yourself it doesn't have to be RotMG related it can be anything but i think its the good start.Later you can try more advanced staff and build up your knowlage.I'm still learning not only C# but many more proggraming langueges.
Hmm i got my start about 5 years ago where i got into Java, Which stemmed into development for Apache's Tomcat Web server. Still mainly Java back end JSON work. SQL and some top level web stuff.

Edit: RotMG specific wise im not too interested in flash or client stuff. I did the RotMG price grabber which is all Java based web parsing. And C# with that too because its basically the same thing as java. used for Krelay.
I just learn from my dad, he owns a big company (not gonna say for reasons...) and has experience with lots of languages. So when I want to learn something or need help I ask him. Other than that I started with basic c++ in school.
I'd like to thank a few of you for taking your time and answering my questions. (Most of you)

What i use to do back then, was mess around with runescape private servers. I had no idea what I was doing most the time.

I would just read what was going on and eventually I started editing NPC's, adding stats to items.

This was 7-8 years ago.

Had my own server but was not really smart with the whole 'VPN'

decided to just stop what i was doing, but I ended up netting about 250-300$ within a month of not really doing anything.

Possibly I can do something to help out the community (Future wise) As the community has helped me out via ROTMG bots, clients, ect.

(I'm sorry if it's against the rules for naming other games via in this post.)

And as for others who may comment on here, please do. It'll be very helpful to me. (If it's on topic)
As @Danny said, if you are not familiar with programming, CodeCademy helps a lot. Started there about 1 year ago with JavaScript trying to mess around with RealmRelay, ended up making a school finals' project in JS that turned out quite nicely. Now shifted to C cause university 'n shit.
Again, JS is really easy to learn, but lacks some of the stuff other languages have, that may confuse/set you back a little.

I would love to hear what your explanation is on what js is lacking in comparison to other languages lol.
I started with codeacademy aswell, but I started like 2 months ago, so I barely know shit :P But it's a good website to start
I started much differently, I was a cheeky hacker on Call of Duty WAW on Xbox. I first started by reading and editing code on flash drives and then I flashed xbox and gave it a go with my buddies on making ISO disks. A couple months later some of us switched to PC gaming. I was lucky enough to meet at the time who I thought was a legend at hacking. He told me all the basic stuff on how to be a, at the time what I thought, was a 'hacker.' I then became further interested in scamming and making programs on that route and took classes in school on JAVA, and learned C++ on my own.
