The Sims 2 trainers?
I've downloaded some but none work at all. I've launched the game through the trainer, pressed CTRL + 5 to give all personality points or whatever, and nothing happens.

you dont need to use a trainer. while youre playing press Ctrl+Shift+C (must be pressed and held at the same time, do not press ctrl shift and c individually it will not work etc)
then you'll get a little text prompt at the top where you type in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" (you may copy and paste this if you want). press enter
now if you right-click a number of things you can alter the game like right clicking your character will give you an option to max all personality stats/motives/skills etc

I can max out my mood, but I coulden't find how to max out my stats/motives/ skills. Which option is that?
