AP Sona Support Guide

Greetings MPGH and League Community,

I started playing League of Legends about 2 months ago and it's an awesome new learning experience.

I main Sona as Support and it's quite fun. She actually carried me to Silver 3 with a Mastery 6 along the way.

** Props to all Main Sona Support players because she is the given squishiest champion in the game. #MadRespect

Cutting to the chase, we all build differently according to gameplay and situation. But I would like to know how other Great Sona players build in the early stages and late game; given that you want to go the full Aggressive AP Support Route.

People always told me "Vision First"... I've noticed that rushing Sightstone wards EARLY may be great for vision and gank deterrent - but - isn't entirely necessary until level 8-10 mid game. As long as you use Warding Totems and Pinks correctly with the ADC and I'll explain a little further below.

Here's what I normally do now with my Sona every game. (Please feel free to think and pitch a discussion)

1. Spell Thief's Edge, Health Potion x3 , Warding Totem
2. Rush Frost Fang
3. Rush Sheen + Pink Ward x1
4. Boots of speed
5. Sighstone
6. Finish Lichbane + Pink ward x1
7. Finish Boots of Mobility / Sorcerers Boots depending on game style (I like mobo)
8. Athen's Unholy Grail ( Passive) / Morellonomicon (Aggressive)
9. Finish Frost Queens Claim
10. Ludens Echo
11. Ruby Sightstone

You'll end up with Aggressive AP Support but should expect squishiness.

Reason why I rush sheen with pink wards vs sighstone and boots is because as a support, it's your job to make sure your ADC is thriving with Farm, Gold, and a comfortable space to work with. I see Sona as a total mind game poke support champ. If your ADC falls behind and can not push and or farm regularly, you can't expect a jungle/mid gank to always help you early on. So what do you do? I Sheen it up to help deal bonus damage to nearby enemy champs and or keep them busy. It's not always entirely the ADC's fault that they fall behind in higher elo matchups and the ADC should never take on both enemy bottom champs 1v2 if behind or limited to choices.

I can honestly say as a Decent Sona Support, either you make greatness happen by helping your ADC -or- watch your ADC fall behind and throw the game just because you didn't do your part. Never let the ADC fall behind. Never abandon your ADC. Help push a safe distance. And make sure your ADC can farm at all times. Put your life on the line just so your ADC can carry all game, even if it means to take the bullet so your ADC can live.

I relly like this build, gonna try it out! I like Sona as support so much, she's one of the best!

tfw you play adc and their Sona supp does too much damage

Late game Sona is scary to be honest in every single aspect of her game even if she goes ap/aptank/or tank. She is really scary to be honest, especially when she is AP. You can't engage on her team and at the same time she can single handily win the game with a good ult.
Also her kit is good for a support of her type, damage, damage reduction, movement speed, movement speed reduction, and heals ofc.
but the thing is she is so squishy , even when people builds her tank.
I mean blitz, thresh against her and she is nothing since she doesn't have mobility but her movement speed, which can be predicted easily.
to be honest I only played her like 10 times in 4 years of playing League, and one of them was in normal games, the rest is in ARAM. She is a free win in ARAM.

That is correct! Sona can be Scary late game. Sometimes I sell the sightstone for the Rabaddons for the last final Battle that determines the game (AP+++).

Squishy but as long as she lives behind lines and pokes, She's deadly.

The only counter champs I have a hard time with are:

1. Leona
2. Trundle
3. Amumu
4. Morgana
5. Blitz
6. Thresh
7. Zyra

Blitz and Thresh still hooks every now and then early game. But for some odd reason I fear Leona more than any of them.

So true and with her Q range being so good, and her support abilities being strong.

Once people start to scale mid game it gets harder though. But Fun! <3

I have a few times in certain scenarios YES! But for the most part, sadly NO.

Prime Sona players in higher elos would accept it that they will never one-shot in late games given you are the Support role and fall behind in farming/roaming away from lanes mid game. (UNLESS the enemy team doesn't have MR of any sort). I would assume the champ was not created to do so even with full max AP Scaling Masteries, as she is a support.

But early game, you can deal great amount of damage once you Sheen Rush and help poke for the ADC / objectives. Your ADC would be pleased when they can kill targets / objectives and get head starts.

Mid Game would be LichBane Greatness.

Late game, Sona can deal decent AP damage but it's best to let your ally Carry champs dish it out while you poke and give attack boost buffs. You must Poke with the 3rd charge up, give attack buff auras, heal with Athenes, speed chase for the single CC, and ult when necessary.

Although we all have respectable different play techniques, I play Sona not to KS, but to help secure kills for the carrys to feed off of - Even if it means to LURE & sacrifice your life to help an ACE
