Social Engineering?

Okay I know how to social engineer and such, and I do know it's not legal. Recently was looking to buy an iphone off someone who is doing an amazon refund, would it be illegal to buy it off him, even if he social engineered it? My mom found out about who im buying it from, and she still thinks its "illegal" to buy it off someone else.

I mean carded goods are still carded goods. I know that argument may not make sense but if something was bought illegally it is still bought illegally.

That being said, you shouldn't worry you're not going to get in trouble. You need to make sure that the IMEI is in good standing and it's not blacklisted on any carriers which you can search up the IMEI on sites to find that out. You should ask for that prior to purchasing. Otherwise, enjoy your new phone.

If he got it illegally in the first place, yes it's still illegal to get it from him

Tell her about eBay and Craigslist...

If you feign ignorance then you will get away with it. You need to make sure the phone isn't blacklisted though. If you're in the UK or US the chance of it being blacklisted is pretty high
