Making a private server

So i would like to start a project to make a private server, i has FSOD and visual studio right now i just want to focus on making the actual server not releasing it publicly yet i would like to add gold to for admins and things it would be awesome. Im not asking someone to make the whole server for me i would just like someone to teach me the basics of how to make it
