However, to do it manually, I suggest using Arun's thread http://www.mpgh.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1144289
1. Divide next evolved stage of pokemon's max cp with your current pokemon's max cp. (Use the chart as your values)
2. You will get a multiplier. Multiply that number with your pokemon's current cp to get an estimation of the evolution.

My opinion, I think it's more luck based to get a higher cp, and I believe that a trainer's level reduces the chances of getting a lower cp.
