o_o I think i'm gonna cry, but more on that later. My main PC, gaming/all other pr0n included activities PC is down and i'm not so sure why. So i'm hoping one of you guys can give me some insight. The story.
I had had my PC on for atleast 3 days cause of downloading, botting, etc, but I was playing COD:MW2, decided to check on MPGH, so I closed COD, then when i'm done doing all my extracurricular computer activities, I go back to COD, Open multiplayer, hit Play, PC Shut off. o_o I know right? WTF? I thought I might have came unplugged either at the wall or the PC, checked all power connections, nothing. I open her up, made sure all plugs were secured, all RAM cards seated, even reseated them, as well as my video card. Made sure the CPU fan/cooler was mounted properly and secured. Nothing. I hook her back up, press the power button, I get one green light, a hint that my fans/LCD's are trying to come on, then nothing. I believe this to be my power supply. I've basically eliminated everything except fried HDD or CPU. All of the capacitors on my board are fine, none popped. I will also add after it turned off I got the distinct "electronic failure" smell, but it only emanated from the power supply. So have I picked this out correctly? Also for specs I got the Gigabyte EP43 UD3L mobo, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, 8 gigs of OCZ 800 RAM, 500 gig western digital blue caviar HDD, 1 Gig nVidia GeForce 9500 gt, and for the thing I don't get, a 500w Okia power supply. (This is only a year old as of some time this month, so I don't know why it would have failed so early.)
maybe, HD, zeco, or david can help. I know nothing about computers either, but I hope everything works. It might be your video card... maybe.
EDIT: guess not HD.

I am not interested in computers/parts
if it runs game @ medium-high quality with 50+ FPS im fine
if it breaks, I burn it

Not really high on my options list. xD I spent $700 on it and i'd prefer to just fix whats broke. But yeah, my PC was like, "ZOMG COD:MW2?! MARTYRDOM PWN!" And I was right in the middle of my, "ZOMG THIS GAME == CRACK" stage. So any input from a tech savvy person would be awesome, or someone who has experience using the Gigabyte EP43 motherboard that could identify a problem with it, because I can't find the error lights for it anywhere. But since my fans/lights won't power up i'm still leaning towards power supply.
Im a real good computer person, Although I'd have to be there to fix it. Thus, not gonna happen.:P
I don't know what to do either. Whenever I have major problems with my computer. Re installing XP is my solution to everything.
Either your CPU or mobo. Provided you've tested the PSU. It sucks dick because those are both expensive parts. Though, before coming to that conclusion remove ALL unnecessary hardware and try to boot. You should just have a CPU, and a mobo(w\ any onboards). If you don't have an onboard video device, then you'll need to make sure the one you're putting in does work. If you get a P.O.S.T, then slowly reinstall hardware until you encounter the problem.
Were you overclocking any components in your computer? A software issue alone will not cause this problem unless the software pushed the hardware past it's limits(which could cause damage).
Also, ground yourself to avoid omitting a static charge to the machine.

Normally this would be my first thing, but it isn't anything like that. I'm not getting ANYTHING, I don't get my bios splash, I don't get my data buffer/dump at the beginning. Nothing. I hit the power button, one green light flashes along with all of my fan LED's then nothing happens. And I mean the fans just flash once and then it's basically like everything loses power.
Also, I actually did have my CPU OC'ed, but it wasn't a massive OC at all and it's ran stable for the past 3 months, i've super pi'ed, 3D Marks and other assorted stress tests to make sure it was fine. As I said I have the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 which runs stock at 3.0, my OC is to 3.6.
-_- This sucks so bad. In the end it'll be my learning experience with hardware failures, but meh. Also i'll finally get to redo the shitty job they did with my wiring harness.
Quick update, problem solved. It was infact the power supply so I grabbed a Pure Power Thermaltake 500 watt PSU, unhooked the old stock harness that came with the PC, which was put in by a retard with a bunch of zip-ties. Now it's much more neat, and airflow friendly. =D Thanks to all who replied, you can close it now Why.
