Password Database

Hi all, I have been working on this program for quiet some time now, It's still not finished but getting closer.

Basically, it is a Password Database Utility Program.

I have designed this program for personal use at the very first beginning because I have a lot of websites, emails, passwords etc then I gradually updated it, and made it more secure by saying that this program has almost got encryption for passwords, and a lot of other program features include the encryption.

Your main Registration Password can only be changed once, this was implemented to stop people from forgetting the master password because if you DO happen to forget the password, the program becomes useless.

In future updates, I will enable it so everything gets saved to an encrypted Database, that way you can change your password multiple times rather than once, and if you forget it there will be email reset links etc.

At the present moment the program is using my.settings (Passwords are encrypted well before it saves) incase you get a breach on your system.

The pictures will tell you more about how it works, and what settings are available.

Would be nice if you told us what kind of encryption you use. And, is the master password the password used to encrypt the data or is it just to unlock the application? Does your encryption depend on the windows functions for encrypting data so that only one specific windows user can decrypt it?

How would email reset links work for a program that's running locally?

At the present time, email password reset is not supported! That's why the password can only be changed once.

The encryption use's ZONG22 & Mixed with Base64 a private way of encryption though. But no where in the program does it ever get decrypted.

It doesn't depend on windows functions in order to decrypt it as passwords aren't decrypted anywhere in the program.

I will re-write the original post and add the features. I try not to talk to much about the encryption, because I don't want people to go and make a decryption method.

So basically it goes like this

Password > Save > Encrypt Password with ZONG22 > load password to check if its correct > Encrypt with ZONG22 & Base64 > Password is now 100% encrypted and only the user knows it.

Sounds like your encryption is weak then. Encryption should rely on mathematical problems rather than on hidden algorithms. You should use good and well known encryption algorithms instead..

Why not use KeePass (freeware)? It's even got the ability to use the db on Android.

I'm using KeePass too. it's very lightweight and nice to use.

You should be storing credentials in a file located in appdata, with aes and that file being encrypted with efs(which will also lock it to local user), not using the default .net settings storing class.

Not using AES-256? Honestly, I wouldn't trust this for my passwords. The app seems well made tho.
Keepass, which is in my opinion the best and safest password manager, is an Open-source app. The reason is because when it came to security, nothing beat an open source project where vulnerabilities can be found by anyone. A private manager where the safest thing is trying to hide the protection process is not going to last long!
Also, I encourage the idea of storing the data in a file, non in the app settings.
