Just a quick thought...
So consider this situation. Imagine you are a character in an anime and you are watching TV or any regular video.

Would the video you are watching be a live action or an animation?

That theory could work if the actually watch live action (3D) but they never do. Everything is considered 2D in their world.

The medium that they are looking through is still 2d (a screen). It is just that live action has the depth that the 3d world it is filming has. All they need to do is somehow understand how our 3d world looks like in the same way we do their 2d world. However, that might be a problem. Since it is like if we tried to understand a 4d world. We don't truly do. Even if we could just display it on a 2d medium.

Good points. I guess it all hinges on what a live action looks like in their world and what an animation looks like. So it comes down to perspective.

Anime because by definition it's Japanese hand drawn shows. Animes also reference watching anime all the time. So yeah, anime.
