Hotels.com

I've seen people vouch for this so I'm guessing its not too risky just use a fake and pay cash.
I bought one night from a seller here. I would say there is little to no risk actually at the hotel other than the room being cancelled before then. I think the reason why this room canceling thing isn't happening is because hotels.com is actually prepaying for the room. I'm not sure how their systems work but that might not be the easiest to reverse. Who is going to bother you at the hotel? Hotel has already been paid. If someone contacts them from hotels.com and tries involving them in any thing It could damage their business relationship maybe... A hotel isn't in the rewards investigation business. Remember these are all independent hotels.

So just my theory but you aren't going to have risk on the hotel level. Possible that hotels.com could get annoyed at you and do something someday, yes. Especially at a certain level. Nobody knows about stuff like that ever until it happens.

In my personal experience with hotels, even being prepaid, the hotel should have asked for my id and a deposit. I was expecting both. However, the front desk girl we got was so extremely careless, she asked for neither. This isn't normal. It was a very easy experience overall.

How it works is like this :
1. Hotels.com (Expedia) sends email to booked hotel about bookings made
2. They send an email containing a VCC of their own to be charged
3. Once you checked-out, only then the hotel staff will charge VCC

If something were to happen, the worst to happen is just your name will be blacklisted in that hotel
