Philosophically?
In Zen You learn the cup can never be empty, even if you were to empty out it's contents would still be full, Is air something? Air is indeed something, and if Air is in the cup, then it is not empty.
So philosophically, you should always view the cup as full, and neither half full or empty.
Seriously?
I always answered, Are you drinking from the cup, or are you adding to the cup, I think if one is to consume it's contents then it must be half empty, and if one is to replenish it's contents at the halfway point, then it is half full...
