[HELP] Computer Upgrading
https://pc.partpicker.com/list/pQk4VY

Just remove the . between pc and part. Link was censored.

Purchased parts are a part of my current computer. So I'm looking to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, and memory cause it's all bottlenecking my 1080. Someone told me the Ryzen 7 1600X performs the same as the Ryzen 7 1700 but with just fewer cores (not sure what that means exactly tbh, I just usually assume more cores = better) and to upgrade the PSU cause my PSU is supposedly shit. If I do upgrade my PSU, going to get a EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply. Also, if I get a new motherboard does that mean I'm gonna need to get Windows 10 again?

Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.

ew at that 1080 and Bronze PSU, anyway, more cores as usually better but Intel has better single core performance afaik and games usually use 1-2 cores, you could get a i5-6600K Skylake processor with the Z-170 or the i5-7600K with the Z-270 motherboard, if you want to save some cash. You could get the i7-7600K and i7-7700K if you want more cores and hyper threading - get a gold certified 650W PSU as you only got a single GPU setup . If you got Win10 on your SSD you don't have to reinstall it

because removing the dot is a pain

Drop that PSU as Thunder said. If you are going with an expensive build dont skimp on your PSU.

A 120GB SSD is not much to be honest, I suggest atleast 240GB. I prefer Intel over AMD but that just comes down to personal preference. Your mobo is also a bit meh.

Was also putting together a ryzen build and everyone seems to agree that MoBo is pretty trash so I recommend you change it as well. I changed mine to...(Let me look it up and update when I find it.

First off, what are you using this build for? if it's for Gaming only, I suggest you get an Intel Core I7-7700K, it's an absolute beast, if you're looking to game, stream, edit, etc. ( Multitasking basically ) Then a Ryzen is perfect

If you end up getting the Intel, I suggest the GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming LGA1151 motherboard

120 GB SSD will never be enough cause you'll put your OS on there, I suggest a minimum 250 GB, Samsung Evo is good

Lastly, the PSU, EVGA SuperNOVA 650 is perfect

And no, if you have Windows 10 on your SSD/HDD, changing the motherboard won't require you to get another copy.

I always went with AMD over Intel just cause it was the cheaper option. Don't really know the difference.

I usually have a browser with like 100 tabs open and disc.ord on one monitor and a game on another monitor. Don't stream currently, but I'm not opposed to the idea, so I want to have a computer that can stream if I want to. So I guess the Ryzen would be better over an intel card?

Yea, in that case, the Ryzen would be better, specially if you decide to stream / edit videos or whatever

If it's only gaming a i5 would suffice, if you want to stream I suggest getting the i7, I got the i7 6700K myself OC@4.5, you could get one with more cores though.

120gb is enough for the OS, I see bernard also got a HDD to store games and media, though I'd recommend a 250GB one if you're up spending a bit more money, if not it's really not a big deal.

Regarding the 100 tabs in your browser, that's mainly RAM, watching videos on your second monitor is mainly your GPU, not a lot of CPU, unless you plan to watch youtube videos, render a video, stream and play games at the same time I wouldn't worry too much

So is Intel just better than Ryzen at everything? Didn't really like Intel cards since they're so expensive but are there any upsides to ryzen?

Nah like heroic said ryzen better for multitasking rendering streaming etc. and perform better than Intel ant that Intel is better for less intensive multitasking and performs better for one specific task. I think

No, if you compare price, a ryzen CPU would perform better at video rendering and streaming at that price range.
Intel is more expensive per core, but they also got better single core performance, which games don't usually utilize more than 1-2 of, which would result in better in-game performance, if you plan on streaming at the same time and/or watching a video a i7 CPU would work, whilst giving you the best FPS if it's an CPU intensive game
