Virtual/Dedicated Server Providers - Recommendations & Suggestions
I've used a few different providers, a couple which were shady from me trying to save a quick buck. The current provider I'm using seems to be a bit overpriced for the performance I'm receiving. I am needing to switch hosts and upgrade, could I get some suggestions for a decent provider? Any providers that have been used on other PServers and have ran well, something that I'm not going in blind.
My server has about 20 players at any given moment, it peeks around 35.
The budget I would like to keep under $100 a month.
I also want to use a Windows OS as I have zero clue how to use any other OS. If setting a server up on something else isn't so hard, please recommend it. However, I would need to be able to use a few programs on the server, which all work with Windows.
Also, just as an minimal spec sheet, 6+ vCores, 8GB+ Ram, and I don't know if a hard disk is that much superior over using an SSD for something like a RotMG private server.
You shouldn't worry too much about specs, I recommend CheapWindowsVPS, your server stability plays a big part in this too, with the $45 setup, my server could run ~120+ players really good
Consider porting your source to Mono as a long-term goal. Microsoft charges for Windows disk images, and that cost is also reflected in provisioning any servers with Windows. Linux servers are far cheaper in the long run, especially since you can get a decent amount of hardware under $100/month with Linux.
I've heard good things about:
Vultr (Linux/Windows)
OVH (Linux/Windows)
DigitalOcean (Linux only)
Linode (Linux only)

Can I ask what source you used as a base, and what locations did you modify? My server has many issues, with tons of lag. I started with FSoD, and all the things I've done to it have made it worse than a base source. I just don't know what to look at anymore, it's insane. Is there some source I could look at that is somewhat stable? I don't know if it's my network stuff, logic ticker, or what. I'd like to redo all of it, though, I have tried reverting back to vanilla FSoD code, of course with no luck at succeeding.
It's 100% the pserver, I'm currently using something from OvH, $54 a month.
If it was possible, I'd pay a hefty amount for someone to fix these problems. After a year and a half worth of work, I don't know what I've done to cause such instability.

Everyone knows Virmach is the best. No credit card, plus for like 8 GB ram and all the shit you need, its like $40. They have 24/7 support and VPS set up in like 3 mins. Windows Server 2012. Plus if you want discount, just pm me on *******, I'm a long time owner.
I used xhosts before I switched to Linux. Paid 25$, support tickets were answered nearly instantly. Had ~80 players
Virmach has instant 24/7 support. Also, good web control panel. Plus, you can cancel service and get full refund within a week of purchase.

Yes, but only once per account.
Through experience with Fremminik, Villoux and all the other servers I have worked on, the best provider I found was cheapwindowsvps. Good prices, reliable support and they gave me a discount . Should check it out, they have 1gbps ports which is really good for servers too.
You should stay with OVH for the best bang for your buck.
