A custom database system

This is a database system based on .txt files (sounds weird, but the way it is designed so far is actually very efficient - noticeable speeds improvements in logging in and loading characters).

It's more of a learning experience for me, the point of this is to create a stable and efficient old-client source.
It will be released to everyone once it is finished or I decide to quit working on it.

Most of the hardest stuff is done now (loading characters, requesting char/list etc.). I just thought it would be interesting to show this off here.

If you're going to do it like this why not just have everything in one file using a dict instead of having to deal with the overhead of (un)loading files repeatedly.

Using 1 file it would have to take some time to find the correct line and values. At least I think so, the way this works, is it grabs the account ID from the email.txt, and then grabs data from the account table for the specified ID, so the speed will always be the same, even if there were millions of those files

but from what I remember, a user has to login with email and password. do you have some sort of string hashing method that would allow for email searches to stay low complexity?

I will probably have to add some sort of hashing method to passwords if I want to release the source to the public though, but for testing and debugging purposes, they are just plain text

I had the same exact idea a few weeks ago when I wanted to make a single player game out of a pserver source xD this way all the player would need is the client and the server and wserver and it would create the db txt files as the user plays (this way the person wouldnt have to do all that mysql bullshit)

i did this with xml, it was nice, only thing it lacked was speed

Yes, that would ordinarily be a problem. However, the structure for each type of data is documented in his custom DatabaseInstance.cs, so it's pretty easy to keep track of what data you're changing.

Have you tried looking into a NoSQL solution to the db instead?
