The program "freezing" may be because the flooding is not multi threaded. Causing the application to hang. I remember having problems like that when designing different types of flooders.

That's literally what the programs do. You can send plenty more than enough data to cause your connection to completely drop. There are different ways to flood your network as well, what I specifically did a while back ago was flood my PS3 with data which caused really weird things to happen in some games. It was different from just flooding my connection.

There are plenty of flooders out there but the more powerful you make them and how you flood can cause threads to hang. Which I'm assuming on face value what is the problem with OP's program but it also may just be a virus/shit program.

Most newer games have some anti-lagswitch measures. So using a flooder you can control how slow you want your connection, but the best way will always be to flood the connection to the game directly so you don't knock your self offline.
