Do VMs work as a reliable HWID bypass?
I have a friend that found a working legit bypass for EAC (he bought it) and since he didn't trust it, he asked me to try it out. If he got banned again, it would be a HWID ban.
Currently, I have a server at home running ESXi. To make sure my main didn't get affected, I created a new VM with new virtual disks and different public IP. and I tried out the bypass. I changed some values in game, no bans at all as I made sure to do everything properly and cover my tracks.
I then told my friend the bypass worked after which he proceeded to try it on his own PC not on my network. Unfortunately, he messed up and the account got banned mere hours after he started to use it. This is his 3rd and final ban (so HWID).
These are the things I did in the end:
- Created a new VM with no correlation to the main one AT ALL.
- Second VM was put on an isolated network connected to a VPN.
- New MAC address for the NIC on the second VM.
- Never logged in with my main steam account on the second VM.
- Nuked the VM and virtual disks after the account got banned.
Only thing I missed is that the second account was used on my main VM in DBD. So I might have to nuke that VM too. Or it's already too late.
Is my main account (and server) safe from being HWID banned or will EAC get to me eventually?
