I'm moving to Linux, fuck windows. My hopes, dreams, and expectations.
Why
Windows over the recent years has turned to trash. The majority of windows has been the way it has been since windows XP. Windows is in my personal opinion, a platform that focuses more on supporting legacy software rather than forcing innovation. I do understand the sheer scale of windows, and that there are government contracts and shit that force them to leave legacy things in there. I just think they should take a better approach to this. But hey, let's just package an operating system with two browsers, because why the fuck not?
The control that windows allocates to you is beyond horrific. The fact that you're unable to disable automatic updates on Home versions of windows is disgusting. The amount of times I have lost data due to windows updates is... yeah... I have written KB's of code, to have a shower and come back to see my screen displaying the login prompt. Fun. But that isn't even the worst thing, the default applications that they try FORCE on you... literally the most cuntish shit i've ever seen. In their settings they actually have an advisory at the bottom of the page saying like "we RECOMMEND you use the defaults" or some shit. Basically trying to force their applications upon people.
Oversimplification is also a problem for windows. They try to simplify so many complex features which just ruins your entire experience. Take settings for example... What the fuck is that shit? You literally cannot do jack-shit there. This isn't a deal breaker, as we still got control panel.. but come on? their settings is laughable. Control panel is also the most idiotic cluster of shit in the world. Who thought it would be a good idea to have a control panel which nobody can navigate. Has anyone tried to navigate Control Panel? like what the fuck is their side panel? it makes no sense... The sidebar should be a simple tree. Like a file-system, you can easily navigate the structure. But why would they do that? make your life easy? haha
As briefly mentioned in the last paragraph, navigation of features. Can someone please tell me how to get to the settings menu where you enable/disable rdp? Yeah, you can't, because you cannot navigate the pile of shit that is windows without help from the internet. But why dont you use their inbuilt search? perhaps I don't have a spare century for it to search their poorly designed index.
File system indices: try search for a file in your system. Have fun. Contact me next week with an update on how it goes.
Poorly optimized drivers are absolutely everywhere with windows. 1 in 2 drivers on my system cause instability. The driver for my wifi nic literally blocks all system functions and results in extreme lag. Literally drops to like 3 frames per second. It's horrible. Now, I know that this isn't the direct result of windows, it's the hardware manufactures. But for the case of my nic driver, windows made the driver...
I could go on for days about features of windows that I find shit, but I don't want to turn this thread into a rant (haha, inaccurate sentence, it already is a rant).
Expectations and possible problems
Converting to an entirely new operating system can be problematic, and I am expecting to encounter a lot. The first problem I'm certain to encounter, is the lack of support for popular applications. But the joy of Linux is that there are tonnes of alternatives. It may take some time ti adjust, but I believe it will be worth it in the end.
Driver support may be minimal, especially with my outdated hardware and multiple monitors. But we shall see.
Post Installation Update
Update in a day or two
Ahh idk, Linux is good for developers, but Windows is "musthave", No. 1 OS dude.
BTW wtf is thiiis

Windows isn't a must have. It is the product of a greedy company that is turning to shit. Only thing it has going for it, is the familiarity. Once other operating systems become familiar, windows will burn an die (hopefully).
Break the ice and get familiar with something else.
Also they are my tags. Like them?
Windows is okay until a point where they started to collect all information about us... Now I hate them
now those are some nice ass tags you have

Linux is good for developers and hackers. I don't know much but I'll just stick with windows. Most of apps, games and that stuff are made for windows.

plug and play works with basically everything
keep backups (windows has a background of fucking up updates too, and being irrecoverable)
for rare devices, yeah... big gay.... but most everything is already built into the os

there are a tonne of noob-friendly desktop envs

That never happend to me, it happends already 3 times to me, that 3 different Linux Distributions fucked their updates, but never Windows.
If Windows failed to apply an update, it recovers itself.
And for the Plug & Play.. If i plug my TV with HDMI, Windows will not only use it as Screen, it also use the Sound Out of it.
Plug & Play. Now try it with Linux, try even to get Sound from your TV without google.
Noob-Friendly is something else.
Fuck you, Windows 7 will forever be the best OS of all time.
But ye, Linux better for nerds like you.

Strange. Never really heard of Nix failing to update. Perhaps you had a broken hdd, or caused the update failure somehow.
Setting the audio output is not much of a big deal. And windows has this issue to, so im not sure what you're on about.
