I bit into the craze right now on reddit of people buying stuff from amazon or other sites and having someone else refund it for you. I found a guy who claimed to be reputable, he had plenty of vouches and I paid him $450 for a new macbook pro for school and I got scammed. It just sucks. That is all. Fuck scammers don't be a shitty person.
You literally went off by the fact that he claimed himself to be reputable without nothing to back it up, so, in smart people's mind, it was brilliant idea that you got scammed, because maybe and only then you'll learn valuable lesson from it, and also; you can easily do refunds yourself if you know how to; contact the customer support of said thing, be that amazon or something else, and come up with enough believable reason why the said item does not work, and tell them you want a refund after they speak to you about it.

Next time probably pay with something you could chargeback if you really really need to, as well as never go first on a refund order, trustful refunders will go first and fuck the shit out of you don't pay in the end.

I know that back in the days I sold something for paypal money and that guy just charged it back and I was in negative balance I was only 14 I had so much trouble with it.
