How do HWID Bans work?

I steam shared DBD to several alt accounts not knowing they would all link back to my main and get every single account banned. I've heard before that after 3 bans, you receive a HWID ban. Does this counter apply if all the Steam Shared accounts are banned? Should I try and buy a new copy of DBD? Should I bypass a potential HWID ban just to be safe? I've heard tons of mixed conclusions from different people, and I would like some clarified up to date information on this before I dump 10 dollars into a new account.

You're in a tricky situation. You could either ask Behaviour if you're HWID banned or you could test it out yourself with a new steam account. I think you should try and ask Behaviour first, you'll have nothing to lose with the possibility of actually getting an answer, make an account on their support desk and in your ticket make sure to include your main account.

Before trying to bypass a potential HWID ban, you should definitely confirm whether you're HWID banned or not.
