So basically i had a profile with full prestige and legacy back in 2017 when hacking was safe, now that it's kinda bannable i want to reset my profile, i haven't started the game in all these years, so is it safe for me to edit my save and reset it to zero without getting banned? Also, do you have to get reported to get banned or is it automatic?

I can answer just half.

"Also, do you have to get reported to get banned or is it automatic?" - EAC doesn't ban, they solely rely on ACM (Associate Community Managers), so you must get mass-reported or manual report using their report system (ticket on dbd support ... customer support)

Since you have been safe to this day, just leave it and never use legacy so you should stay safe and keep your profile private (or you can set it to friends only if you trust your friends) if you have non legit prestige or any other achievements that you got within a few minutes that normally you cant like all ranks and prestige achievements or adapts..
