Flashing is better. But no, they CAN detect it if you send it in for repair. MS already has ways to read if your xbox is flashed or not, depending on the game and the burn. Sending it for repairs is just asking for a reject.

Ali G, why don't you check out the tutorials section on how to flash your 360? It seems like it would be complicated, but its really not. If you have all the files, then it'll probably take at the most 10 minutes. (Setup and Flash.)

Just keep in mind you CANNOT flash with a laptop, except for a certain express chipset which is rare right now. Some Toshibas have a SATA port on the side, so all you'll need is a power source for the Drive.
