Performance looks good, and design of founders one is not really something I like, and once released it will be pain to get it online for a good price...

What's your grudge against AMD? In my mind, AMD is literally Intel but more affordable.

IIRC, their 10nm was supposed to come out this year. But they kept having trouble with it and its pushed back.

It was supposed to be 10th gen, 10nm, but it came out only to laptops. 10th gen was actually better than Ryzen 3rd gen on laptops . The only thing intel had going for them is that their 14nm architecture was significantly better than AMD's and intel was able to stay on it for legit 3 generations of CPUs. but I hopped off intel to AMD after the 9700k only offered 8 Cores.

Then they also had a supply chain issue that has partially to do with building CPUs being less efficient, while its easier for AMD.

This is why so many people hate Intel these days. DOnt get me started on their bullshit Motherboard Sockets. Bunch of LGA Bullshit.
Wait Wait Wait. The Intel thing that's delayed till like next year is a 10nm and now AMD is like yo we're using 7/8 nm? Jesus Intel. They're going to basically release their DELAYED tech and it's already going to be outdated tech compared to industry rivals on release? Or is there more to what Intel is doing than just the measurement of their transistors in nm? Like is there more to performance than just number of transistors able to be fit onto a card/chip?

I think its because when I got my first laptop, I was 11 years old and it was AMD and it was shit lol. Never had another AMD CPU ever after that

Intel CPUs are designed much better than AMD. Intel 14nm is practically neck and neck with AMD 7nm in gaming performance. The Ryzen 1st gen/2nd gen were made on a 12nm architecture and they were ass compared to Intel's 14nm CPUs. Intels 10nm Desktop CPUS were predicted to be much better than AMD. But as stated before they had shit happen and delayed their releases. In the end, nm feels more like a buzzword in today's market, but it is indicative of performance. Smaller nm doesnt instantly mean its better than the competition (though in AMD/Intel, it does)

Yes. Intel 14nm still gives better single-core gaming performance than 7nm AMD. But its impossible to deny that AMD is faster in core clocks/multi-core performance. I am not a computer engineer at all, but Ive been following tech for years.

Basically Intel can reach higher clocks with their 14nm (5ghz) so it still performs better than AMD which goes at like 4.4ghz max. But if you were to set both Intel/AMD cpus at 4ghz, the AMD would perform better. AMD also has more cores than intel because of their architecture. And I believe their Infinity Fabric ( what they use to communicate between their cores) is better than what Intel has. But intel has other things going for it. its more stable with faster Ram. Each CPU responds better to different speeds of ram. I know if you get AMD, buying fister and lower latency ram helps a bunch in your performance.

In addition, it has to do with how the chip was engineered. Stuff like the cache unit and the memory controller. The CPU has to get instructions from memory, and it has to store results in memory. Any time it runs out of instructions, it has to go get more from memory.

There are stuff called AFU/FPU that I have no idea what they do.

There is a company that handles the semiconductors called TSMC that I dont really know about.

Basically a bunch of shit from people that are smarter than you and me. Thankfully to understand the CPUs and GPUs, we as consumers just look at the raw numbers and benchmarks to make a decision. Leave that smart shit for the Computer Engineers.

Side note: Intel has some vulnerabilities that let hackers get access to your computer called Meltdown/Spectre that are possible because of the way they were made? IDK. I know they exist. To fix them Intel suggested turning off hyperthreading LOL. Read on those, hilarious shitshow from Intel

Side note 2: A good example is how AMD is about to release their GPUs. Their GPUs will be made on the 7nm architecture (versus 8nm from Nvidia). But the way Nvidia designs their Cuda/Tensor Cores along with their memory will still result in AMD not being able to hold light to Nvidia in high tier performance.

That is correct. AMD cpus used to be complete shit. Intel literally ran the CPU market for the past 10 years. But AMD is finally ahead of Intel, but people dont realize it.

Apple exclusively deals with Intel (though they are moving towards ARM)

Intel used to be so much better than AMD, it was in every school building.

Intel set itself up much better while they were on top. So much so that they are still competitive with AMD even though AMD has a much superior product than them. Intel literally PRINTED money with all the shit they pulled. They would release a new motherboard socket for every generation, meaning that if you wanted to upgrade your CPU, you had to buy a new motherboard as well. AMD didn't do that. 1st gen ryzen motherboards worth with 3rd gen ryzen motherboard.

If you are buying a brand new Intel CPU, you are an idiot. Go ryzen, literally better performance and cheaper.
Bought a whole new PC last week and even got a 2080Ti.

Should have waited!
Looks good and bettert han 2080 since I need a new pc I'll wait a few months before buying it. 1080 still rocking these days
Was never interested in Founders Edition gpus, but it looks nice, performance (& performance in contrast) also is amazing.

Aftermarket ones; that's where the fun begins (for me atleast).

So Intel basically has better individual cores and a higher performance ceiling for said cores, but AMD generally has more cores processing more things.

I use a 1080 and can't really run The Division 2 (early 2020 release) at max settings on a 4k monitor (things may lag at times, objects take a couple of seconds to render, etc.). That's why I'm thinking of actually upgrading my PC after like 6-7 years.

I bought my 1080 when it came out like 6 years ago? PC still strong and I don0t play on 4K I just want to enjoy games without having low fps or issues.
Idk what you guys are talking about... the design is clean and beautiful to me <3 I'll probably be getting a 3070 tho as I'm quite broke and need to upgrade my monitor, cpu, psu, ram and mobo as well

So like, everything? Is it upgrading if you change like almost all components?

Reminds me of that Ship of Theseus thing.
waiting on 3060 to upgrade from 1070,

1070 100 fps on bfv 1440p it's still a nice card
good choose for a refund xD
Sometimes you learn to live with a shitty computer. I am representing the people.
