Finding the right Adress
Hey, now that i finally have some more time to work on my c++ trainer i figured trying to find out how i can modify an value.

I have the c++ code to do it (i think), and i know that this might not be in the correct forum but for some reason i do think it is. (Because i have questions to how to use a certain address.)

Right, so i found the address for money in Assassin's Creed 2, i can modify it and everything, now i know that the address changes when the game restarts etc. now i need to find out what really is the proper address.

When i do 'find out what writes to this address' (in cheat engine) then i find a code which when i modify the value the game crashes.

So i read this tutorial here and it made me think if i could use this address then instead:

I found these:

- AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe+ED818F | Code: mov[ecx+10],eax (works to NOP)
- AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe+F1E8D3 | Code: mov[edi+34],esi (dunno)

So like i said i read the tutorial so i know that the exe+adress points to the proper address.

I wondering can i use this code in some way to modify the value rather then using the exact adress? And i'm pretty sure i saw that 'code' thing in c++ before too eax and mov.

Can i use the code type to modify the address?

And last but not least, if none of the above? How do i really find the address that i need? I keep finding the same address so i figure this is the one, but every time i edit the value to have like 99999 it crashes (using my c++ trainer) whenever the money changes (i throw money on the ground).
Set a breakpoint on each of those addresses that you found. Check the contents of the register and dereference it manually and see if it's pointing to the address that holds the amount of money you have.

lol thank you for replying, ehm can you explain what you mean with breakpoints (c++ or cheat engine?), contents of the register(windows register?) dereferencing it manually(???)

Void refers to reverse engineering, Download ollydebug and have a shot at some tutorials found in stickys around the forum

Try using OllyDebug
, contents of the register(windows register?) dereferencing it manually(???)
once u break on the address u'll see the value in Olly's register window. Lastly, it is either one of these codes...
Code:
- AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe+ED818F | Code: mov[ecx+10],eax (works to NOP)
- AssassinsCreedIIGame.exe+F1E8D3 | Code: mov[edi+34],esi (dunno)
but not both, since from wat I can see, only 2 lines... I really don't know enough to make an educated guess, but if it did in fact take u to this code, either ecx or edi, must be the object pointer. Im guessing ecx though since thats the first one.

EDIT: BTW: thats a damned nice tutorial there, I might have to take a loonk at it, even though I already know about pointers.
Edit: I'm not a quitter, and the c++ code is fine, but this memory searching is getting on my nervs. It is just boring and confusing. I'm guessing that that kind of hacking isn't my thing.

Well either way, thanks to all of you and i'll probably still ask questions concerning c++ here.
But i just think it's not worth the time to put in this, i was learning c++ and not how to find memory addresses.

I learned some good stuff from the last time you guys helped me, and more default stuff then trainer making but i don't mind. I'll be moving on to a different project now.

(offtopic: still no one figured out what my avatar is?)

A barcode
You can set a breakpoint on those instructions using CE, when it breaks it's going to list all the registers and their contents. Then continue with what I said before.

Nope (well it kind of is, but not the ones you would see in a store)
squares at an equal distance of eachother but as seen on your minimap on MW2 when someone with Scrambler is close to you.

I'm finding this hilarious that you guys are guessing like this. Okay here's a hint, it's matrix code.
'A two-dimensional barcode (as opposed to linear and stacked symbologies), such as e.g. Data Matrix.'

Very good, wikipedia ftw. Mystery solved
Or is it?

Oh darn, my avatar was a bit messed up. It should be a little more cleaned up now
