Right now, I am using WeMod to help with a steam game called Subsistence. It was just updated to Alpha 55 and now those mods do not work. I would love to learn how to make my own and to keep them updated. Can anybody point me in the right direction on what I will need and how to learn?

You're going to want to learn assembly language, how to use reverse engineering tools, and how to code. It's also going to help if you learn about networking.
