Internet forums and reddit
Why do you think reddit devoured forums?
I personally think that as we become more connected we become more isolated in a weird way. As more and more people join the monster that is social media there is a need to regulate However, armatures and volunteers cannot regulate the sheer amount of people. Also, there needs to be a R&D team that forums just cannot fund. Corporations like reddit do this through various ways (mainly joint ventures and brands). Reddit basically created its own sub forums so the need for isolated sites like car forums become obsolete. Plus, people flock to where people are, something something snowball effect. Too much of a good thing is such a bad thing. The decision making that mods and admins have to make impacts MILLIONS (on individual forums) and they are not equipped to do this. However, in subreddits like r/suckacock you have 420k people (which massive ) you have to manage less people and than the mods get managed themselves in a sense via reddit admin itself (quarantine and banning etc). Plus, with reddit anyone can technically start a subreddit if they think a particular subreddit (r/politics for example ) doesn't let them voice their group's beliefs and they can easily attract similar minded people.
Just some initial thoughts. P.S: I hate reddit but its so addictive. V.V
