How can I increase game performance?

I want to play oblivion without lag, But It even lags on medium quality.

I don't want to play it with low quality because it looks fucking gay

What programs or things can I do to make it so it lags less.

GameBooster maybe?

2gb ram 128mb graphics card
Couldnt play COD4

2.00 gb ram and 1.75 usable.

and

889mb memory graphics card.

So should I go and buy it?

It isn't just about vram size. If you have the money get an ATI Radeon 5850, currently the best bang for the buck in the high section, if you don't have the money get a 5770 or 5750 or something.

If your PC is too old though you can get a serious bottleneck and the gfx card won't really help you.

And Gamebooster / Smartclose help close unnecessary applications.
