you should be able to...make sure your current window is maxamized and you have the move
ow tool, then shift and click anywhere (with teh gradient layer selected) then drag to the other side (with CS2, you should see a blue box around the object you are moving...e.i: the gradient layer, so when you see that starto move then you know you got it right....
another easy way it so select the move tool, select teh gradient layer then press shift+arrow keys that will move it in a controlled direction for a certain distance each time the arrow is pressed
