overclock help!
ok, so i just got a new pc, and i think about over clocking it, im having a quad core at 2.6ghz and want to overclock it to like 3ghz, is it possible, and what are the risks of over heating? (if i can go higher in ghz, ill get a liquid cooling system) this is my side pc but i wana make able to play cod black ops

thx alot ppl that help me!
Google it, overclocking might not over heat such a poor computer
how do you only have 2.6hz on a quad core???
i have a quad pentium phenom and i have like 6ghz
A quad core 2.6ghz processor (im assuming c2d) is plenty fast enough to be able to play Black Ops. But how about your graphics card? That’s what is important here.

You definitely do not have 6ghz cores. You might have 6ghz total (which isn’t how it actually works) but not 6ghz per physical core.

agreed for the blooded part, 6ghz would need a river of cooling

and i tough it wouldn`t hurt to get a .5 ghz up for making it smooter, and fr the gfx car, im actualy looking for one, since black ops isnt out yet, i have plenty of time to look around, i have atm 120$ of budget, and might have some more, but i think ill get like 2gb ram with my gfx card, because i have like 6 atm, and remember this is my side pc, i have and i7 980 in my main pc, and will not overclock it
There is no way you are going to get a graphics card with two gigs of dedicated RAM (GDDR3 or 5) for only $120.

I bet my integrated 9400m (laptop) with 256 shared GDDR3 will be able to play Black Ops on mid/low. It shouldn’t take much, probably 512mb at least to get it to look okay while on native resolution.

total: 210$ (aprox)
Instead of more RAM, get a Seagate Momentus XT hard drive.

actually, that’s a 2.5” SATA laptop drive. But it has a 4GB SSD cache and the rest is a HDD.

So it’s as fast as an SSD and as large and cheap as an HDD.
Way more benefits than two extra gigs of RAM, especially if you already have 6.
