[Release] iTunes Library Mover.
Hey guys, another release from me. This time it's the iTunes Library mover.
What does it do?
Basically lets you quite simple transfer your entire iTunes library (music, apps, purchases, videos etc) to a new location, even on another computer if you prefer
What do I need to do?
First of all, download the program and start it up (it'll require .NET Framework 4.0.0 because I forgot to change compatibility and it screwed up when i tried to change it at the end, so bad luck. It's time you updated anyways)
Now you'll be greeted by the little "Intro" box with some instructions. As it says, select what step you're up to (if you've got no idea what step 1 and step 2 are, it's a safe bet to start with step 1
)
Okay before you proceed, open up iTunes and go "File>>Library>>Export Library" this will ask you to save some useless little .XML (useless at the moment /
) Remember where you saved it.
Step One: here you'll be faced with 3 textboxes to fill out, the first two are pretty self explanatory. First, locate the Library.XML you saved before with the "Browse" button. Now you'll need to locate where to save the files for the time being, again pretty straight forward.
The last textbox is slightly more tricky, this is where you tell the program where you are going to put your music PERMANENTLY after you've moved computers or whatever. It's important that you specify the correct file because when you go to import the "NewLibrary.xml" that the program creates, iTunes to look for all the files in the location you put in this third textbox.
Now you're ready to transfer, press the button and it'll get rolling immediately with the copying/moving depending on your checkbox selection. After it completes you'll get a little message box telling you it's done. You're now ready for step two.
Step Two:If you're moving the files to a new location, copy my program onto the portable drive as well and re-open it on the new computer. By default it will specify the "New Location" as the one you saved in the third textbox in "Step One" and you'll just need to locate where the files are currently stored (on your portable drive) press transfer and wait til all the files are moved/copied across. That's it for the copying side of things. Now open up iTunes from your new computer and press "File>>Library>>Import Playlist" and locate the "NewLibrary.xml" in the location you just moved all the files to. If all went correctly, iTunes should start importing all your files correctly with playcount/rating/artists/artwork etc. You're done!
That's the basics of the tutorial done. If you need any more help or clarification feel free to ask.
Alrighty then, here's some screenshots:
