Special Program..

Hello there people. Yesterday I decided to texture mod weapons, again. Sadly, weapons are much more complicated then knifes.. Which I already knew. Also, I quitted modding because of the fact my mom didn't keep her promisse and give me a tabblet.. <- Enough of that.

Anyway, to buissnes. When you are modding textures, it's one flat picture, which you'd probably already know. Now, since you will need to see what part of the flat image, is what part on the gun, you'd have to look ingame. Now, the problem is, that once you try to figure out which part of the gun is which part on the image, you'd need to see the gun from EVERY side. Which you cannot once you're ingame. You can only see the left / upper side of the gun. Not the right / under part..

Now, is there any program that would open a DTX file, and then show it how the gun is ingame, and then allows you to see this from every single side?

No there isnt,Go ingame,Look at all the parts,match em up with the texture,you dont need to see the other side,Its the exact same.

all you can do is trial and error...

or you can color different parts of the dtx with different colors, and then see hoe it looks in game.. take a screen shot, and use that as kind of diagram to see where everything goes

Hmm. I know I could do that. But that'd make every mod alot longer. Also, sometimes it looks like there are parts in the Image, that aren't used on the gun.

Really confusing!

that why so many people take a short cut and do L9 mods because the dtx is so simple.

pussies cant do the hard work to make a good one so they just release what ever random crap...

i'm glad that you want to make sure your mod is right.. that is a good thing.. i cant wait to see your releases

thanks a ton. But it still isn't easy.
I don't like random crap either. I'd love random camo's on guns that don't have a camo, since some camo's might turn out just perfect. Ofcourse, everyone should start easy. Just like me. I only modded a knife once, which turned out good. But it was pretty easy. Hmm.
Anyway, I'm going to work on it, daily some hours, and see if I can turn it into anything!

Well, this is more often used for completely custom models and doing textures for them, but you can do that in Maya if you get the right plugins. Maya is a modeling software by autodesk.

No, No Special Programs. Do Trial and Error or Lrn2Match.

ModelEdit. But I don't think it works with the CA DTX format, so you might need to convert them to an older version, using a tool somewhere on the forums.

The polygons that can't be seen in game game are removed for efficiency reasons (because there is no reason to spend time rendering something that is never seen).

If you can't see something, why bother with it? You never see any cool designs on the bottom of cups do you?
